During a recent Nadcap audit, the auditor found that we were not address error E or repeatability R as per ASTM 18-08 section A1.5.3.5
I explained that when performing my daily verification, I test two blocks within 10 points of my test required point by taking 3 readings. If the readings fall outside of the tolerance of the hardness blocks, I do not need to perform an error E evaluation as requested by the spec because my procedure does not allow the use of a machine that reads outside the block tolerances. I red tag the machine and call for repair and recalibration.
His write up says my procedure does not address the requirement and issued me a major finding!
If your test always falls within the tolerance of the hardness block you would never have an eror that required a repeatability check.
What am I missing here???
