Re: Hardware Naming Question

All good information, and dare I say it, common sense. What I really wanted to verfy was:
Is “TAP BOLT” and industry common term?
If it is I wanted Engineer to chnge its description from SPCL (special) which it is not.

Phil
Yes, "tap bolt" is commonly used to describe a fully-threaded bolt. In fact, if you included "tap bolt" in the description you would probably be safe in eliminating the "fully-threaded" wording.

Re: Hardware Naming Question

"Tap bolts are full thread with coarse or fine threads. Tap bolts meet SAE J-429 specifications. "

This description is used by bolts manufacturers. It does not say anywhere that they are suppossed to be half threaded. But I agree that with a part number, the mistake should not have happenned.

Lise,

You put that first sentence in quotes but don't say who you're quoting. Not all tap bolts meet SAE J-429 requirements.

Re: Hardware Naming Question

Jim,
You are right, I was quoting a specific supplier and wrote his comment.
It does not mean that all suppliers of tap bolts meet these requirements.
My apologies.

Thanks--no need to apologize. I just wanted to make sure no one got confused (like me :D).
