Has Anyone Had Trouble with IMDS 8.0?

Today we had three IMDS submissions that need doing, and in logging in I found that our company has been migrated to the new version 8.0 system and that no one can log in. We have three registered users on site and all of our credentials are being rejected.

I'm sure we'll get this sorted out, but I was just wondering if there are any other IMDS users here who've had trouble with the new version.

I manage several accounts. All have been converted. 8.0 is not an improvement. It is a step backwards.

I am having trouble as client manager to reset a user password. IMDS shows an hour glass for 4 minutes, says email was sent, but user does not receive email. IMDS service desk is slow too respond and cannot solve the problem.

Also "new password" option for users from the log on screen does not work either.

For the rest: significant reduction in productivity. More clicks to get thing done, increased elapsed time between click and data is presented.

I will be at the IMDS summit in October and hope to get my observations acknowledged. (I doubt it).

Thanks Kales. Looks like we're all beta testers. It would be a good idea if we could opt to use the old version until the kinks get worked out of the new one. This is likely causing lots of trouble. The heck of it is that often IMDS submissions have to be done at the eleventh hour because the weight of a product isn't known until you actually have a product in hand.

I was on the phone for 30 minutes with the IMDS helpdesk, making suggestions I had tried already (create new user, change email addresses). They finally emailed me a new password for my user that could not log in.

Yes, one of the customers was screaming for an MDS submission so that they could approve the PPAP.

Did the new password work?

I was just on the phone with an IMDS guy for an OEM, and he seemed surprised that there was trouble getting into the system, but he did say that doing anything once you get in takes significantly longer that it did under the previous system.

Yes, the password that the IMDS rep. emailed to me worked.

My experience is also that the new 8.0 is slower and reduces productivity.

My own experience with the 8.0 version of IMDS has been smooth after a short period of acclimation to the new environment.

We have not had any of the user login issues that I am aware of, but then again we only have two registered users that actually do anything and three more that have read-only access.

It has been beneficial for the sake of speed to be specific in searching for entries. In the past if I was not entirely certain of what I was looking for I would just leave all the search fields blank and keep flipping through the results pages until I found what I wanted. This new version handles this much differently with its dynamically expanding listings. Scrolling through all of the MDS entries is a slow process now and I am much better served by using the search fields, albeit with a few asterisks in the search terms occasionally if I am still not certain of what I am looking for. Either way the number of returned results is greatly decreased and speed is improved.

I personally have very limited experience in software development but I have seen many cases in that limited arena where user conditions and behaviors were not anticipated. Software development in general is a multidisciplinary effort and is much more than "just a few lines of code". Actual user feedback is quite often worth its weight in gold but it takes a determined developer to break through the angst and frustration in which the feedback is often presented by the users.

Well, there are very good software tools to prevent bugs these days.

I got another "System Failure" this morning, after the export of a search result to an excel file failed.

I was able to get in this morning using the (administrator) login credentials of one of our people who hasn't used the system at all in a few years. I started requesting password resets for all of the users. For each one (there are only three active users) once you click "OK" there's a full five minutes of the hourglass before I could go on to the next one. The first was done 45 minutes ago and the password reset email hasn't arrived yet.

Based on my experience, the email will never arrive. You would have to call the IMDS help desk to reset passwords to get it resolved.
