Hello,
I am an Industrial engineering undergraduate student, asking for help to this project of mine. i want to optimize raw material utilization by linear programming at Match Industry. So the situation is as follows;
In match production involves several processes (summary):-
1. peeling of the logs into veneer
2. veneers are then chopped into splints (wooden sticks)
3. cleaning and sieving
4. treatment of the splints
5. splints storage
6. chemical dipping
7. packaging
In all processes there are material wastes but the station of concentration is at the Peeling station since it constitutes to wastes which are 12.86% of all logs used. Material waste at this station (peeling) is developed by the process of peeling stripped logs into thin sheet of wood called veneer. The plant is supplied with nearly 700 logs to produce around 900 cartons of match boxes per day. The station capacity is 8 hours per day, operated by 4 workers and 2 peeling machines. The peeling process produces 1.6 ft (0.5m) veneer no matter the dimension of logs placed in the machine. That means, every log will be peeled to that 0.5m dimension and the remainder part will be waste material. Therefore, waste occurs in each peeled log to produce veneer of above dimensions.
From the collected data, the waste at this station is equivalent to 78 logs per day....
Therefore, i believe by minimizing the wastes at this station, will help the reduction of raw material costs (logs). I need help to convert this problem into Objective function, constraints and variables in order to solve it by Lingo.. Thank you
