I was hoping the same thing would happen to baseball a few years ago when the millionaire babies cried they weren't making enough $$ to play a game for a "living".

Jerry
Not a sports fan...well, except SCCA and World Rally racing.

Todd: The game that they play today bears little (if any) resemblance to the game that we invented....and I'm not a fan of THAT game, much less this one. (I also don't like American Rules football, but that's another story)

Murph: Yes, it is...I am burned (usually in effigy) every Friday night (Hockey Night in Canada) by co-workers.

All: The most appropriate sign I've seen this year:

I think hockey & hockey fans in Detroit are different than any other state. The knowledge of the game by the average fan here rivals are neighbors to the North. I miss hockey, I miss the wings, but I have to agree that I am sick of hearing about a bunch of crying millionaires on both sides.
Hockey in TN, FL or NC is a bit much and I can understand why they would struggle to make money. But Calgary and Edmonton? That is a surprise.
I actually saw Gordie Howe and Bobby Orr play at the old Olympia stadium. I went to games when the wings were known as the Dead Wings. It's interesting to look up at the banners at the Joe and see nothing from the '70s.
I grew up with "Hockey Night In Canada" on channel 9 here in Detroit, I was a fan then and will be a fan of the game.
I am not renewing my Red Wings tickets and I will not attend a Tigers baseball game (not that I'll miss much). I don't think that it will hurt Mr. Illich but I'm tired of the fans being suckered.
I have been to see Michigan and some Michigan State games and I'm planning to see the Plymouth Whalers and the Motor City Mechanics play. That's the way I'll be getting my fix.

Randy,

:agree1: :agree1:

And don't forget the Flint Generals. I'm lucky, they're only 20 minutes from me here in Lapeer, and it doesn't cost my first born to find a seat and a hot dog.

Al...

In Toronto we do have to pay an arm and a leg for our tickets...maybe they'll go down next year when the salaries go down...yah right! :nope:

Anyways, it probably doesn't matter...looks like the crying millionaires are messing things up for another missed season at the rate they're going according to some news postings on the Toronto Maple Leaf forum www.penaltybox.com

Obviously the players have been hit in the head a few too many times.

A superior game of hockey is played by the kids in the Canadian Hockey League who are heading to the NHL. They're paid next to nothing and it's totally wide open unlike the current clutch and grab trapping game played in the NHL.

I agree. GO WINGS. Here in Michigan, we are so close to Canada, I think the love for the sport just drifted over here. I am also sick of hearing about the strike and crying millionaires, etc. But what are you going to do. The owners at some point decided to pay Hockey, football, basketball players these enormous salaries and charge fans high ticket prices. So, I guess I could make a case for both sides...

I do miss hockey also, as one of the only "professional sports" that I like to watch.

This is just my opinion, but I do feel that out of most proffesional sports that hockey players seem to better at providing some positive role models (even if they are crying millionaires.......)

I have had the chance to meet several hockey players (due to some family members / friends being envolved w/ parts of the Red Wing Franchise) and I haven't met one really that hasen't been very outgoing, polite, and professional. But of course, I don't think when you meet one of them they are going to go off on you (bad press).

But I do miss my hockey and I miss the boys in Red!
