My son is playing golf on the high school team for the second year (we have only just started playing) and he got a hole in one today! He is 16 years old, and a really nice kid. His dad and I are very pleased, in part because it's sometimes been hard for him to feel good about himself. He was with three other players from his team, so of course they all know now.
Way to go Robert!
the protocol, of course, is that he has to buy a round of drinks for ALL the witnesses. Pretty cheap round of Cokes or even milkshakes at the clubhouse compared to a round at the 19th hole!
I have been playing for over forty years and 18 inches is the closest I ever came to a hole in one. I HAVE, however, had at least ten free drinks during those same forty years for having WITNESSED the hole-in-one! I was ALMOST as thrilled to be a witness as the guy was thrilled to be the golfer who got it. The most recent one I saw was by a 50+ year old woman whose foursome we waved up because we picked our own hits off the green to take a
beer cart break. I think everyone on the course heard me whoop as her ball hit the fringe of the green and then just kept rolling and rolling until it dropped. The woman gleefully paid for drinks for 20 witnesses, including the beer cart driver. We all signed her scorecard!
I hope your son can get his handicap down into single digits - I only made it into single digits for about 4 years out of forty.
