How are YOUR tier 2 documents numbered?

So an overwhelming majority use the standards numbering system for their QSMs.

But it seems everyone uses a different method to number procedures.

So my question is...

How do you number your procedures (tier 2 documents)?

Perhaps a poll?

There is no requirement to number documents. Do what works best. You can use titles, numbers, names, whatever, as long as the user can determine what it is and is assured that it is the latest version.

I haven't implemented yet, but I am thinking about the procedures being really basic, (IE PM01-PM10), but then work instructions being connected to them like:
PM01 - Document Control Procedure
1QWI-01 - Document change work instruction
1QF1-01 - Document change form

That way, every WI is connected to the general procedure (starts with 1, 2, 3 so on), and likewise with the forms, but I also add the number from the connected work instruction.

Hopefully it's not too complicated! I just think it's easier when you change something in one document, it's easy to find all of the associated docs!

Absolutely!

Here are samples of what I have suggested to my Clients:

CPUR-P01 Rev 0

C = Charlotte (The location in the corporation where the document resides)
PUR = Purchasing process
- = Spacing for clarity
P = Type of document, in this case "Procedure."
01 = Procedure #1.
Rev 0 = First issue (No revisions yet).

RMNT-W09 Rev 3

R = Raleigh (The location in the corporation where the document resides)
MNT = Maintenance process
- = Spacing for clarity
W = Type of document, in this case "Work Instruction."
09 = Work Instruction #9.
Rev 3 = Third issue (underwent three revisions).

I use:
M = Manual
P = Procedure
W = Work instruction
R = Record
F = Form
C = Control plan

You can use any code that makes sense.

Hope this helps.

This has been covered so many times, it's not funny anymore.....:lmao:

I wouldn't suggest a poll. Please try a search, or ref. the similar threads shown below......

One thing I've seen - and as a consultant I've seen the 'gamut', they always fall down somewhere....
