If you google 'dye cut', 'mold & dye' or 'dye cast', you'll find that they are very much in use. There are company names such as 'American Dye Casting'.
Whether it's wrong use of the word or not, it seems the use of this word is deeply entrenched and I conclude that the OP is not wrong to use this word.
