Get them going

We have had ISO 9001:2000 since June this year.

How do I as the QA Manager get the marketing boys to use this certification big time. They know we have it, but do not see the big picture. And before anyone says, Yes it was hard work getting it.

Offers please, sites or any info

Thanks in advance

Get them going

A big mistake during the ISO9k2k implementation efforts is: not involve the support processes of our organization.
When element 4.1 talks about interaction it refers to the overall interaction of the "business" processes and as we know you don´t have a quality characteristic aligned with the customer expectation without the field information or the market intelligence.
QMS based in ISO 9k2k are worthy only if the business processes interact between them.
May be using some tools like the hidden-factory (poor-quality cost) could show how the "real" business is going on.
Please, don´t allow them to go!

Get Them Going

I feel the same way you do; we recently received our certification to the new ISO9001:2000 standard. Most folks in our organization think we bought this certification and did not see all the work from behind the scenes. We received two minor findings during the audit.

Now our company wants to see how many companies are certified to the new standard; how many companies pass the certification the first time around; how many companies have a consultant come in to get them ready or pay for a pre-assessement from their registrars?

I feel like I am in a no-win situation. It sure does take all the fun out of it; while I am jumping up and down - they are speculating what took place. :frust:

Can anyone direct me to a website that captures any ISO benchmarking or statistics on ISO certifications?

I don't think you are alone, it happens all the time nobody really knows what QA does and the work involved, they only see QA as being a pain in the ***.

Just a question why does your company want to know how many companies are certified to the new standard, how many pass the first time around or how many pay for a pre-assessment or consultant what will that do????

As far as taking the fun out of it remember this "Everyone elses job is easier than yours, until they actually have to do your job."

Quality Systems Update has the best statstics I have seen on registration. They sell a CD-ROM of all certified companies. Their website is www.qsuonline.com.

Why is it your job as QA manager to drive marketing strategy? Where does the top [wo]man stand in this? rgds Jim

Jim,

I'm kinda suprized you'd ask this question. Aren't you the guy who proposes eliminating "walls", dropping the word quality and calling it "Management System", etc.?

Tomjess is a Manager for his company and is trying to help his company with an idea -- it just so happens that the idea is regarding a different department than the one he works for. I see it as a positive. If the Marketing Manager (or HR, or Finance, etc.) had a idea he/she felt would help the Quality Department I would expect him/her to come see Tomjess with his/her idea as well. Isn't this how all good companies work? What did I miss (again)?

Response to question:
"They want to do a comparison between our ISO efforts and our companies efforts". It appears that they do not trust our registrar.

Then why the **** did they choose them? I don't know what you do or who you work for but your boss sounds like an idiot. Why do they not trust your registrar.

If they were going to do anything why don't they see how many of your compitetors are ISO certified or how many have made the transition to 9001:2000. I think it may be difficult to find out how many "failed" their first time around or how many paid a consultant and/or pre-assessment. This is JMHO but your management does not sound to bright!
