Re: How do I show the Interaction of Processes in the Quality Manual referring to 4.1
To Patricia's and Jane's points, when I posted my question my mind set was if I needed to create, write or revise a new or existing procedure how would I really know who's life I was affecting and what implications this document would have. So I set out to do an in-put/out-put type of matrix in relationship to the AS Requirement. I think by doing this my next step is to make a matrix showing relationships between inter company procedure. So with this in mind I would appreciate any input on the attached first matrix. Again I am trying to develop a value added tool, as the examples I have seen and developed in the past really do not offer any value only meet a requirement.
Thanks in advance.
Hi Bob the QE,
I think you're on the right road. I created a similar matrix (see attachment) to help me sort out all the requirements of the respective standards and aligned them with our Key Processes. (Mine is a bit more detailed, because I found by including the actual text of the standard, the document champion could read exactly what the requirement was, and then verify that the intent was met in his/her document)
Anywhere the requirement interfaced on some level with the process, I added a check mark.
Each column of check marks then became the "To Do List" for the person who was Champion of that Procedure. The just go down each column and make sure that their respective procedure captures the identified requirement.
Obviously this document is primarily of use to the System owner and Process Champions.
As you said, next you start checking to define where each Key process interfaces with other Key processes. In my system, this is identified in the flow charts, where other Key processes (or supporting Work Instructions) are highlighted in Red (you could map this out in a Matrix if it serves your purposes). This method lets you know how each Key Process is linked to other Key processes (see second attachment - sample of Internal Audit interface with other Key Processes). In reality, your System Process "Sequence and Interface" Map should capture this requirement. If you send me a message with your e-mail, I'll send you a file to demonstrate how mine does that. The file, unfortunately is too large to upload here.
Sounds like you're on the right path...and doing it so it makes sense, and adds value.
Hope this helps.
