How far apart can you schedule separate areas or departments in your internal audit. Could it be done different quarters? Example Audit Shipping and Receiving one quarter and Quality the next.

Scheduling audits based on time isn't effective. You should consider why you are auditing. Let me ask you "Why are you wanting to audit these things (hopefully NOT departments, but processes)?

Audit the process correct. Wanting to be complaint with ISO 9001:2015 that requires an internal audit to be conducted.

The standard doesn't simply require audits to be conducted. You asked about how far apart audits should be. The ISO 9001 requirements require your audit program to be based on other things, not time "between" audits. If you are simply doing audits because ISO-says-so, then you are missing the point. If this is the first time you have done audits, compliance to the standard is a reason, but you could do an audit/day until you cover all requirements.
Let's go back and ask the same question. "Why are you auditing?"

Let me stress one point, in your initial question you mentioned area/department. You need to walk away from this. Focus on the processes. One process may include multiple departments/areas. Keep in mind that internal audits are not only done for compliance, they are considered a means for you to identify areas for improvement. Many internal auditors make the mistake of stopping at "Is this meeting requirements?" and forget to ask "How effective is it?"
