We only have 30 or so parts, and we can't handle that.
We made a big Excel spreadsheet that listed dimensions needing capability data, stated what the cap index was at PPAP, and shows what the current cap index is each month. We color coded it red/yellow/green for status. The printer ran out of red toner.
Then we got so depressed we really haven't managed to get to the improvement part yet.
Software exists to help with this. We use Mitutoyo Measurlink and it can track capability by period. Very slick. But it's one thing to know the status, quite another to take action.
Several hundred parts - you have my sympathy!
We took a pretty big hit during our last audit for failure to react and improve, so we are now looking at it again. Still depressed and overwhelmed.
As part of the internal audit process we perform audits of machined parts. We randomly pick 4 parts per plant and do a full capability study on 100 pcs. This is done every month.
