Yup - I was thinking with respect to visitors here since people come here from all over the world.
Not a big deal. Some people put their birth date in their profile. You can set it to show or not to, and you can just put in the month and day without putting in the year.
I was just "playing" with the software a bit and decided to customize the "Happy Birthday" email the software sends to people who have put in their birth month and day (and year if one puts it in).
For anyone reading this, no big deal about putting in a birth date. It's obviously not required. *IF* you do put it in your
User Profile, you can set whether you want it to show or not - There are 4 options. I think I have mine set to only show my age.
If you choose "Hide Age and Date of Birth" neither will be publicly available. I do put in my birth year because I'm not real paranoid about someone being able to match up my name and birth date. I've seen too many sites which can supply that information. In fact, there was a recent discussion of the extent of data mining going on and sites selling information on people. I like my age to show in my posts, which is why I put in the year in my profile.
But again - Just thinking of little ways to make Elsmar more friendly. Quite a few people have put in their birth date and I get a fair number of emails saying "Thanks for the thought" when they get the birthday email.
