Wonder if anyone can help me understand the following situation:
We regularly create and manage IMDS data for electronic components, normally their BOM is not more than around 5 or 10 sub materials and each has only 1 or 2 suppliers. Therefore the whole IMDS sheet is only 1 page.
However we also sell a small number of parts for which the BOM numbers a few hundred components. Here, many of the components on the BOM may have a great number of alternative approved parts, for example resistors, capacitors. This would lead to a MDS of many many lines and variations. Our current system to hold the data and generate the report would not coupe with this much variation.
Does anyone have any experience of how the IMDS is generated for something with such a large BOM?
So far we have never been asked for an IMDS sheet for any of these parts, which I also find odd. It makes me question whether it is even applicable to ask for an IMDS sheet for something so far up the chain?
Are IMDS reports only used for small simple components?
What exactly is covered by the legislation requiring such data? Is it possible that these complex units area exempt?
