I usually try to work from the assumption that I don't know anything. However, if I want to give myself a break, then I "know" that the CDC's website indicates that, as of 4 PM yesterday, 10,442 confirmed and presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 had been reported to CDC or tested at CDC since January 21, 2020, with the exception of testing results for persons repatriated to the United States from Wuhan, China and Japan, The website also indicates that there have been 150 coronavirus deaths in the US.
How many cases and deaths there have actually been, I don't know, and I have no way of ever knowing.
I think the coronavirus pandemic has thus far been an exercise in decision-making in the face of much uncertainty. I think that, while the COVID-19 pandemic has been spreading quickly through the population, the PANIC-20 pandemic (well said!) has been spreading much more quickly through the internet.
I think something always rushes in to fill a void. In this case, the void can be filled with panic, denial. or information. I prefer information.
