How Lucas Modernised Audio in Film
I am somewhat of a video person and like a lot of movies including ones from the earliest (1896?) to some of the current films. But, I do prefer video at home. I don't like going to theaters these days.
Anyway - This is a pretty good article on the history of sound in films. I do really like a lot of the old silent movies. With the technology of the day, some were pretty genius including "special effects".
The ensuing discussion isn't too long (54 posts at this time) and taking the time to read it is worth it. A lot of clarifications and such. Good discussion.
