Types of visual management in place where I work:

  • Welcome board out front - posting accomplishments, visitors, and other quick news bits.
  • Vision posted on wall as you pass Security outside.
  • Strong Goal boards - 5 Strong Goals, our history, our current performance, the benchmark.
  • Communication boards - While we are still working on ways to standardize this information from department to department, most boards contain 5S information, Annual Action Plans, Key Indicators, and other department related information.
  • 24/7 movie - A PowerPoint presentation set up in the Rolling Mill, so that our operators have up to date information on company performance.
  • Shift communication board - problems encountered, resolutions (if resolved), products coming up.
  • Key Indicators - I've talked about those a lot in the Cove
  • One Point Lessons - PowerPoint slides that are generated as a result of an Abnormality (hiccup from Routine Practice). Shows the wrong and the right way to accomplish one aspect of a job - the part where the Abnormality occurred.

At this point, that's about all I can think of...I'm sure I've missed stuff, but still, it's a nice list to start off with.

We do a lot of communicating here....with lots of colour and lots of pictures/graphs.

Friends,

I am attaching a few example of OPL (One Point Lessons). In OPL we try to show with the help of pictures What is Wrong and What is right methodologies of doing small small things.

If you want I can post/send many visuals to you people.

Thanks for the visual! This is exactly the kind of thing we use at my organization except that they are not controlled as yours appear to be. This has been an ongoing debate at my organization, but in the end the decision not to control was based upon the following argument:

"They are not correcting a document or a process. They are repeating what the routine operation currently is. It is simply a tool to address an abnormality."

I would second guess that - I think these have the ability to communicate instructions, and if that is the case you might want to control them. Remeber a well controlled monster is better than a monster out of control. :bonk:

Yes, they can lead to the development of a WI...but then it is the WI that is controlled. These OPL's are shown at crew meetings and never posted...they are visual tools for training purposes. They basically serve as a reminder of the current, established, and most likely already documented process.

I agree. These are like training aids or lessons and none of our lessons are controlled. Currently we include the training guys in our Document Transmittals (Emails to departments to notify them of a document update). to ensure that the lessons, tool box meeting material etc is updated if the WI changes.

visuals on stamping product

I liek the idea of visuals because we have spanish that can't read. But how do I make a visual that would instruct them how to measure a part? I thought of a camera that woudl do a little movie clip. Any other ideas?

The movie clip is an interesting approach. How will this be conveyed to the employees? Does that mean that anyone who does not read the language will get a pda?
I share similar dilemma, in that my employees that are ESLs (English as a Second Language) have trouble with reading. We employee visual aids, like I have attached.
It is a basic step by step. Written in English, yet it seems to work.

example

That step by step picture example is effective. Can you tell me what kind of camera and something about settings? How big is your part? Our parts are steel and anywhere from .500 to an inch long. The diameters range form .500
to 1.0
