Our COO has reviewed my suggested policy update, and feels it doesn't really address 5.3c (provides a framework for establishing and reviewing quality objectives), so I added 'measurable objectives' to the second sentence (which is now getting a little long-winded):

XYZ Corporation is committed to deliver products and services that satisfy customer requirements for quality, delivery, reliability and value.

We will achieve this through the use of robust design, quality materials, employee training and empowerment, measurable objectives and continuous improvement of our quality system.

I feel pretty confident that this covers all the bases of 5.3, and would pass an auditor's muster as well.

Looks OK to me, except for the passive "will" in the second sentence.

If you're committed to deliver products/services... quality, delivery, reliability and value, that suggests a fine and dandy framework for setting objectives to my mind.

You'd set them around... guess what? quality, delivery, reliability and value!

(But sometimes one has to give a COO what a COO wants).

The best quality policy I have ever seen, was at a large Organization that stated: “quality is all about effectiveness and efficiency”.
Of course to be according to 5.3 b) of ISO 9001, they had to add another sentence…
:(

Re: Policy Statement - How many sentences does your policy statement contain?

You don't need one, darlin'...the name "Randy" is synonymous with Quality.

New poll...who believed I typed that with a straight face? :notme:
Are any of your posts with a straight face?

One of the things that occurred to me over the weekend is that nowhere in the standard does it say that the quality policy has to relate to product.
ISO 9001 2006 defined quality as:

The degree (which is a measure of customer satisfaction) to which a set of inherent characteristics (features and benefits of the product which always in the elements of time and cost) fulfils requirements ( requirements are the customer’s requirements, the organisations requirements, legislative requirements and requirements that are inferred.)

Yes; this is product centered but, is not product or service about being predictable and reliable in its performance? As I see it, this infers that to some extent the supplier 'trains' customers in what degree of reliability and dependability they can expect from the product or service.

This tells me that perhaps the quality policy should be more about building capacity of business processes to deliver a consistent level of product or service reliability and so make business processes that deliver the product or service, more effective and efficient and drive out variation in outcomes, rather, than focus on the end result itself.

Perhaps then, an appropriate policy might go along the lines of:
... to continually improve business processes, particularly those that improve customer satisfaction levels.

After all; is not the 9001 standard a framework for managing and improving business processes?

I'm trying to figure out where this definition came from. I don't see it in any version of ISO 9000, 9001, or 9004, and there is no international ISO 9001:2006. Is this from a country-specific version or interpretation?
