The only value a GOOD QP possibly adds is that it makes the concept easy to digest and easy to remember for a common member of the organisation. If not, it can easily be dispensed with.

We have a 9-sentence QP.
Seven of them describe briefly each principle of quality management, except leadership. The rest connect them with OUR products and customers.
But each sentence is very short.

One sentence:
"(Our organization's name) will strive to continuously improve its Quality Management System with the aim of exceeding customer expectations."
I never really liked that policy statement but I inherited it and now I am stuck with it. They did however tie that statement nicely into our quality objectives which tie into our mission statement which ties into our Quality Policy Manual.

One good idea is to write the quality policy using separate sentences.
This way it’s much easier to fulfill requirement “5.3 c) provides a framework for establishing and reviewing quality objectives”.
For each sentence of the quality policy we must have one or more quality objectives.
The top management periodically decide what they want to achieve in the way of quality (and in line with other objectives for other areas of the business such as Sales, HR, Environment, Finance etc. ) and put in place means of achieving it - including assigning resources and developing programmes.

Ours = one sentence - but WOW! For those of you who have one that's 3 to 10 sentences long, how do your employees remember it?!!! One of the favorite things auditors do is to pick a random employee and ask them what the policy is. Most of our people have great difficulty with the one sentence and I can't imagine 10 to remember. :mg:

Of course you may have your Quality Policy and objectives the way you want.
One thing I can assure is that making a Policy with separate sentences and having Quality Objectives for each sentence, is the easiest way of achieving conformity in requirements 5.3 and 5.4.1.
As an auditor, I don’t have a very good experience with QMS that verify the effectiveness of the system using “other areas of the business”...
Generally it’s easy to find some nonconformances in those requirements I stated above...
