How many sentences does your policy statement contain?

A good Quality Policy comes from "the heart"; articulates clearly Top Management's intent and message what existing and future customers can expect from the organization; is aligned with the organization's Vision (where it sees itself in the future); Mission (how it plans to get there) and Values (the beliefs and principles that guide the organization on its road to "greatness.")

Well put. May I add that such a policy serves to unite and motivate all employees to move in a common direction for the benefit of that organization. It is certainly not a sexy or funky fashion statement.

Ours = one sentence - but WOW! For those of you who have one that's 3 to 10 sentences long, how do your employees remember it?!!! One of the favorite things auditors do is to pick a random employee and ask them what the policy is. Most of our people have great difficulty with the one sentence and I can't imagine 10 to remember. :mg:
At previous companies I have worked at where to policy has been 3/4 sentences long they gave out stickers for the back of your ID badge and one even had the policy printed on the band that held the ID badge to your neck, when asked an employee could just look at the card and quote word for word... good or bad?

Not bad, but I always ask what it means to them and how they contribute to making the policy a reality.

Our Quality Policy consists of 5 bullet lines. We pass out cards to new employees that have the Quality Policy on one side and the Environmental Policy on the other. We train our employees to the policy annually but during training, ask them to descibe what the policy means to them.

We have a two sentence QP. We made about 15 posters of the policy and hung them up in various parts of the company. Employees are never more than a couple of steps away from being able to read it to the auditor. Recently, we had stickers made up to place on the back of our badges. For those that don't have vision problems, that is fine, but for those that are visually challanged (not blind), the posters are what they work with.

Of course, we have had auditors ask employees what the QP means to them, and the auditors have never been disappointed by the answers.

Only two, but long ones, believe me :yes:, long ones; the main points in there are:
1) Customer satisfaction
2) Accomplish with legal and regulatory requirements
3) Improvement
4) Follow the QMS.

We also made same as Bogie does, we hung up 6 big posters and 10 letter size QP aroung the company, also employees has a badge size QP to attach to their badges.
We verify the QP with ALL employees at company where we ask them about QP meaning to them, if they know quality objectives, how they contribute to achieve QP and QO, our avg results in the last 6 years is around 98% of people know all these issues.

I agree. Ours got whittled down to one sentence and was printed on stickers for the back of the badges. But still, employees have difficulty explaining what the significance is or what it means to them.
I think it would be easy and come naturally to employees if top management emphasized the basic objectives. In our case, I think management does communicate about overall goals. I don't know that employees connect this talk about goals with this sentence written on the backs of their badges, though.
Being one sentence has also led to a sentence which is written not in a very colloquial style, and thus is maybe a little difficult for our average employee to make any sense of. ISO-speak phrases like "continual improvement" and "customer requirements" seem basic to an audience like us, but are not inherently understood by factory laborers who work their 40 hours and just want the check at the end of the week.

sir our company quality policy has 1 sentence which cover cutomer satisfaction & continual improvement on which ISO 9001:2000 emphasis.

sir I am agree to your point that it is difficult for the employees to remember long quality policy that why we made 1 line Quality policy for our company. any view in this regards will be highly appreciated.
