How much Supplier Information do I have to provide to a Customer?

How much supplier information do I have to provide to the customer. For example, we sell the customer an assembly. Do I have to send information relating to dimensions for the rivets?

I looked in the customer supplier manual and it says that approperiate supporting documents shall be provided apon request, but is there other generally followed rules of submission?

Are you talking about a Supplier Survey, or a specific request from your customer?

No lol. I'm talking about dimensional datadata of components.

I think Paul was asking you about the circumstances that prompted your question...i.e., if was from a survey OR if a customer had asked actually asked for some specific information.

Either way, the information provided should be detailed in the contract with the customer. If it says 'upon request' and it is requested, then my opinion is that you may be contractually obligated to provided it. Unless there are caveats related to the level of documentation or pertaining to specific parts/aspets of the assembly - i.e., stuff you won't send.

There may be some legal/warranty issues to take in to consideration, as well, and if you believe that this 'upon request' is a potential minefield, maybe you can approach your Sales and Engineering departments to work out an updated contract that states what information can (or cannot) be shared with the customer.

I would like to see the requirements of documents contracted, but I doubt that it gets that specific. I looked to the quality manual and like it said it just states that we are to provide "approperiate supporting documents."

I think dimensional data on components are approperiate supporting documents. Actually I'm just looking for is general insight into what is required to send to customers and what is not, for components. Wierd question I know, but thanks for the help.

Yeah, that's a pretty vague place to be, vardar3. As a general rule (for me, anyway), if it helps your customer and improves your relationship with them, by all means send them the information...so long as it's not proprietary to your process or your supplier.

This might provide a good opportunity to improve your procedures regarding this as well.

The manual is only the starting point and is not a standard.
There might be additional requirements from your customer for example
Chrysler Customer Specific Requirements For Use With PPAP 4th Edition

The cardinal rule is to ask the customer, this is exactly the type of issue that needs to be cleared up when analyzing the customer requirements before signing the contract.

Only the customer can give you the answer to your questions
