How often do objectives and Q-Policy change

Has anybody changed their quality policy as result of obtaining their objectives? If you have set forth objectives that have been achieved and set forth new objectives does this necessitate a change in the Quality policy?
I think under the old standard nobody changed their Quality Policy alot.

I would think that you have set and achieved your Quality Objectives as a result of your Quality Policy.
Then you have set yourself a group of new Objectives to strive for and I would presume this also is due to your Quality Policy.

So I would say your Quality Policy is being followed and reaping results and would see no reason to change for this reason.

Your Quality Policy would be reviewed by Top Management when the time comes, be it yearly or whenever and may or may not require changes then. But no, it should not be changed for the reasons your are citing.

Put it this way, the only changes to our Quality Policy would be after the Top Management Review and for no other reason. And usually, changes are only to bring it up to date, current terminologies, current practices etc.

Dear NAOTB,
During management review meetings, the review team should / shall establish quality objectives. The measurable quality objectives shall be consistent with the quality policy and commitment towards the continuous improvement of the organisation business processes.

In relation to the BS EN ISO 9001:2000, the standard requires the following

5.4.1 Quality Objectives

Top management shall ensure that quality objectives, including those needed to meet requirements for product [ see 7.1 a) ], are established at relevant functions and levels with the organisation. the quality objectives shall be measurable and consistent with the quality policy.

You really need to analyse your quality policy and ask yourself how can I produce the evidance that your organisation measurable quality objectives are reflecting your company policy. If you cannot provide the relevant evidence, then I would consider changing your quality policy.

Not knowing your business background, what are your measurable quality objectives for your organisation? Some new quality objectives you might consider are the following

Are current and future needs for your organisation served?
Relvant findings from your previous management review?
Current business / product activitiy performance?

I realize that objectives are set and maintained until you either prove you cannot achieve them satisfactorily or you change the departmental objectives to see how they may effect the corporate objectives. Does the quality policy only change when your business plan changes?

In my limited experience with one manufacturing company, the Quality Policy was not changed because of the business plan. It has remained (relatively) the same despite switching from cell phone to automotive business. The QP has been tweaked, however, due to other things: management wanted to highlight our dedication to our customers; change in terminology (as Laurie mentioned); switching from QS to TS, etc.

I should point out that our policy is focused on how we want to operate as a company, regardless of what’s in the business plan.

As a rule, Quality Policies are never changed, there ARE exceptions, but upper management tends to change very slowly. As a result, the standard or initaitive usually changes before the policy does.


They are usually some flowery load of bull imho anyway. I have only seen a few that really convey a realsitic statement.

I am starting up a side business and here is my policy:

"This company will strive to provide all customers with the highest quality product possible, deliver that product on time, and will charge the customers a fair, agreed upon price, in order to maintain the profit necessary for the success of our business."


Objectives change occaisionally, but QP's rarely

:applause: Carl, I absolutely agree with the "PROFIT" word, so many leave it out. Without a profit the QA policy is meaningless. :agree1:
 
Quality Policy and Objectives

OK, I guess I get it. Quality Policy doesn't change just the objectives do.
Wouldn't want to be a revolutionary! Thanks to all who responded!! :thanx:

But it does.... though usually not as often as the objectives. We have to review it for continuing suitability, but that does not necessarily mean that it will be updated every time we do so....
