How to calculate Supplier PPM at Receiving Inspection

Hello,

Can anybody help me please regarding how to calculate PPM to suppliers?
In our company we have only raw material suppliers( plates, profiles..).
Should we calculate the PPM for all raw materials received for a delivery (from one supplier for example)?
Or we should calculate the ppm for each article, and then a total ( for all articles received from one supplier for one delivery) ?
If the raw material we receive has different measurement units, how we calculate the ppm?

well the best answer for you will depend on what you are trying to understand from a ppm value or how you will the data. If you can clarify your purpose it would help us help you.

If you focus on critical items of a product where things are physically measured, you could do this based on Cpk. That itself is a measurement of how much ppm is out of specification.

If the quality of material is determined by chemical content, that can also be determined by ppm content but that may be a pass/fail criteria.

Another way to assess you supplier is Lot reject rate not ppms.
