ISO 9001:2008 says:

"ensures that its personnel are aware of the relevance and importance of their activities and how they contribute to the achievement of the quality objectives"

how the heck am I supposed to prove that?

Thank you!

Re: 6.2.2 d...how to?

Training & Internal Communication.

Personnel should be trained regarding their activities, records should be kept for evidence.

Regarding Quality Objectives, post the measurements at certain points throughout the plant and ensure everyone knows where they are & what they are, especially those relevant to their particular department (scrap, returns, complaints, etc.)

That makes sense, but I guess what I am asking is how an external auditor would prove that they are "aware". One auditor might assume that because Quality Objectives are posted, that they must be aware. Another auditor might dig deeper and expect some type of response from an employee.

Am I looking at this too deep myself?

An auditor, like me, will ask them relevant questions (you'll be asked questions as well). And a response other than "I dunno" will be expected.

Simple - you don't, they do!

If I'm auditing, let's say a machine operator and they are telling me how work gets done, parts made, they should be capable of telling me what's important to getting the job done right! Of course, if they also encounter some wrong parts, they should also know, what to do. It's actually really easy and probably one of the things most people get! I've never been 'trained' in my job, but I can tell you EXACTLY what's important to a) the customer and b) the company and why I must make sure things are correct because it impacts later processing etc.

Here is a post + attachment that may help you to assess the level of awareness.

You can certainly think of other questions that are applicable to your organization.

Re: How To Comply with ISO 9001 Clause 6.2.2 d

If an auditor questions me on that, I take them out on the floor and tell them to ask any employee how their job helps meet our business objectives.

I ask this question when I first came to the company as M.R. because when I ask them about the Quality Policy and Objectives, they would read it off a card. Then I would ask them how does your job and you help accomplish that. The first time I got stares and I help them along. Now they will go through a list in their own words of how they help the company.

It is great to watch 2nd and 3rd party auditors face.
