Concerning with your question, I think that the answer is it.
Looking at the entire process of documentation control, the external audit could assess how you handle external documents, sampling some documents ad hoc across all the organization.
One example of the external documents could be the vendor manual that technicians of the staff could use during their activities. How do you ensure that the current one is the last version as well as available on the point of use?
How do you treat the eventual changes? and so on...
Other external documents could be the construction projects coming from external consultants for facilities operation.
I suggest to check also these items during your programme of the internal audit.
