How to document revisions after Periodic Review of documents ?

If the scheduled review of controlled documents (i.e. procedures) indicates that no changes are required to the procedure, how best is this captured? Are the Effective and Review dates upgraded to reflect current status and new review date but the revision # remains the same?
There are various internal suggestions but I have not located any guidance in website searches.

Welcome here sernewin ...
You would not get any guidance for the reason that no standard tell about any periodic ad hoc document review as a requirement. This certainly is your organization requirement, and so you may capture it in the best way it makes sense and evidence to you.

Re: Controlled Document Reviews

Thank you for your response. I may not have correctly expressed the question. Mandatory review of our procedures is required every 3 years. If no content modifications are required, we will update the effective and next review date but not the revision #. Thanks.

You are good if you have captured this methodology in your documented procedure for document control, and is correctly understood by all who have to do the review activity in your organization...

This sounds to be acceptable.

Perhaps you might consider a entering a phrase such as "reviewed but no changes made' in preference to no comment at all as this may be open to intrepretation that changes were made but not entered and the blank space is an omission.

We simply track ours in a log.

Procedure XYZ Revision 1 Due for review: 8/26/13

We then update that date every year. If changes are needed, the revision level will change and it will follow our document control procedure.

If no changes are needed, we simply update the date for the next year.

We do not put any annual review information on our documents.

Good luck!

Tara
