How to exclude or handle the need for calibration on equipment

Hi all,

There are a couple customer requirements that call for calibration which seem a bit overkill, or will be very hard for us to meet.

The easy one is measuring time: most of these requirements are written in hours, and cell phone clocks are accurate +/- a few seconds, so there shouldn't be any issue there. But if something as simple as this will get the auditor on our case, we might as well buy a few and keep them calibrated.

The harder one is about scales. We build things that sometimes weigh in the category of 2-6 tons. Previously, the weights were checked by loading the equipment into a pre-weighed truck and driving over to the nearest highway weigh station. We do not personally own scales that can measure that kind of weight. Often times, we are well below the customer max value on weight, but it's still often a direct customer requirement.

Is there a way to write this as a legitimate form of verification? It's highly doubtful that they'll want to buy a scale of that size since it might only be used once or twice a year. Maybe we could capture a photo of the calibration record on the weigh station scale? I could also reach out to see if I could get records of calibration from the weigh station.

Are there any commercial scales nearby available for public use. It is common in areas with a lot of trucking for scales to be available to check weight before going to the highway scales so that they can be sure of avoiding overweight fines. If such a scale is available it is highly likely that they have scales that are traceable and can provide that appropriate records.
