Not fire as in fire from the organization. When I started with the new organization, I changed out two of the internal auditors that had no interest continuing to be auditors after 10 years. Replaced with volunteers eager to be a part of the QMS. Everyone was happy with the change, and I think it improved the overall effectiveness of the audits.
I think transitioning from Quality engineer or inspector into Quality management can be a big challenge as we deal with black/white procedure, documentation, test methods, to dealing with the not so perfect world of different people perspectives and motivations and plant manager's that can't understand why we can't "SHIP IT!". Managing auditors is in part, dealing with people. My main point.
