How to understand "Monitoring the Process"? "Measurement" of the Process?

I know to measure the process, the process indicator and related target need to be established.

But what is "monitoring the process"?
any differece between "monitoring " and "measurement" of the process?

confused.

how to monitor a process?

In my opinion process is a general concept means a transformation of a Input in Output, when this process is measure by one characteristic witch can be measured with devices, we could say that the result is meassuremts.

But when the process is a relation Input/Output and the characteristic is a metric due to is a Macroproccess therefore you have a reading of the metric, In my opinion could also be named as measurement, is like the indicator measures the system.

So, let's say you have a purchasing process for evaluating suppliers.

Measuring means you will track the number of suppliers evaluated in each quarter (or which ever timeframe you prefer).

Q1 = 3
Q2 = 6
Q3 = 1
Q4 = 4

Monitoring, means you have targets/goals/expectations when it comes to evaluating suppliers. Suppose you expect a minimum of 3 evaluations to be done per quarter.

Q1 = 3 (you met the goal)
Q2 = 6 (you met the goal)
Q3 = 1 (you did not meet the goal...why?...what actions will be taken to fix this?)
Q4 = 4 (you met the goal)

If you are stuck trying to determine how this applies to Purchasing, I strongly urge you to talk to your Purchasing Manager about which items are important to him/her as a means to show that his processes are under control.
