How to understand "Monitoring the Process"? "Measurement" of the Process?

I know to measure the process, the process indicator and related target need to be established.

But what is "monitoring the process"?
any differece between "monitoring " and "measurement" of the process?

confused.

how to monitor a process?

Re: how to understand "monitoring the process"?

To monitor the process means to analyse the measurements, compare actual values with targets, identify trends, and initiate action when measurements are not trending towards targets.

The idea is that measurements alone do nothing: we have to do monitor the measurements to systematically keep the process in control, and to improve it. (Sadly, some organisations just put metrics on a chart on the wall, and either ignore them or punish poor performance.)

Hope this helps,
Patrick

It means, that you have defined what characterist is significant for this process and could be measssured (i.e Oil temperature).

Once you have selected the charasterist which control your process you must see if this charasterist fall in the Tolerance Limit established for this charasterist.

I.e Oil Temperature 20ºC +- 2ºC

Therefore once established the period for the monitoring in all shifts, the data is monitored to see the improvement in our process with the index.

Cp, Cpk See SPC

Re: how to understand "monitoring the process"?

take an example for purchasing process,

TS talk about monitor or measure the process, not "and".

So we can monitor the process, how to monitor without establishing the process indicator?

measure the purchase cost to see the progress to meet the target, that is called "measurement".

How to monitor purchasing process? how to monitor "order review process"?

How to monitor purchasing process?.

1)
If you have None Attributive ans stablished Tolerance Limits

i.E: Index. Spent Money. Tolerance: +- 2M€ Cp,Cpk

2) If you have Attributive indexes

A single Matrix with all indexes.

i.e: Number of Invoices paid

Quarter--1--- 2--- 3---- 4

------- 100---200--300-- 400

But those can be called "measurement".

how about monitoring?

The summary is:
ISO and IAF said:
In the auditing of monitoring and measuring processes, it is important for auditors to un-derstand the difference between “monitoring” and “measuring”:
 monitoring implies observing, supervising, keeping under review (using monitoring devices); it can involve measuring or testing at intervals, especially for the purpose of regulation or control.
 measuring considers the determination of a physical quantity, magnitude or di-mension (using measuring equipment).

thanks

I read that document and think about the difference.

who can give me an example:

monitoring of purchasing process

measuring of purchansing process
