Re: I have an interview with LRQA next week

Yes I have for another Registrar and I did not get the job so I am not sure I would be a good choice to listen to on this. LRQA has gone to many independent contractors and fewer full time employees. It is cheaper for them when business is down just to not give out the work to contractors then use their full timers more often. There are positves and negatives to each. I would think being a contactor would be better but you might need a secretary or someone to help coordinate your activities. 100% travel as well unless you get lucky with a few local jobs which seems rare for most. Good luck and I hope it works out if this is what you want.

Re: I have an interview with LRQA next week

During the last 17 years, I have recruited, screened, interviewed, hired a good number of management system assessors and (had to) fire a few, as well.

Not sure what LRQA's criteria is, but, in my case, besides all of the expected traits ISO 19011 talks about, I look for:
  • Mobility
  • Professional Maturity
  • being able to work independently
  • common sense
Mobility is huge. If traveling is painful for you, having to deal with airports, hotels, rental cars, etc...don't even think about this job. Many people don't realize how much traveling is involved. Knowledge of standards can be learned. Road warrior life style can't.

A quick look back at Randy's posts about what he's been up to and where he went would back that up, Sidney!

BTW - LRQA's criteria were the highest (at one time) - which is why they hired me......:lmao:

To add to Sidney's points, I would mention flexibility. The more options you can provide such as a range of codes you can cover, the more valuable you will be to them.

I suggest summarising your existing experience in such a way that you can easily show the areas you can cover and take it with you on paper, laptop, memory stick, or whatever is easiest.

I guess they will be looking for people who can provide solutions to their problems, so present yourself in such a way as to make it easy for them to see what solutions you can bring.

Re: I have an interview with LRQA next week

I agree. It's not a 9 - 5 job - the audit day is only part of it, especially if you work from a home base to local audits. Long hours, therefore.

And anyone with expectations that travel is fun/exciting or exotic probably need a reality check.

They also want you to be well organized - not just as an auditor, but in the admin work they require. Your expense reports, for example, turned in accurately and on time affect their ability to bill clients in the same manner.

Not 9-5 is correct, last week I reported 72 hours.

Join every car rental program, hotel awards program, airline program and all that other stuff and be prepared to never use the points for yourself:lol:
