Hello... I am new here. I have been assigned to implement ISO 14001: 2004 in my company.

Hope that you guys can guide me on what are the readings should i consider? I have a ISO 14001: 2004 standard. What else is important for me to be able to understand deeply about ISO 14001?

Thanks alot... :):bonk:

well, you have the first step, you have a copy of the standard, and the second step, you found the Cove:notme:

I suggest that before you start looking for any broad base info, such as "what do I do now" you look at the links provided at the bottom of this page, and use the search function to help you put together a gap analysis. You do not say...are you familiar with the "environmental" side of things, or did you just draw the short straw? What is your background? It will surely help others give you the advise you need at a level that you understand. Welcome, and good luck.

Welcome to the Cove, se123. :D I see your location is given as "MY." Is that Malaysia? Just curious. We have some other helpful Malaysian Covers who might be able to help with your particular situation, and lots of other people who have experience with 14001. Your question is a bit too general to attract really helpful responses, though. You might want to be a bit more specific--what type of company, for example, and some of the particular challenges you might be facing.

In finding the 14001 forum here you've accomplished the first step. In addition to posting your specific questions, you should browse through the forum, where you'll find a lot of helpful information.

Ok, so at least you know that you don't know!

Hopefully there is someone at your plant that knows what kinds of regulations/laws you need to obey. List those out, along with what pieces of equipment (production, measuring, etc., you'll need this info as you go through implementation.) are affected, does it affect air/stormwater/land? i.e. get some basic knowledge of how your plant affects the environment and what are the rules and regulations you need to follow.

Continue to research the Cove, and ask specific questions, someone will answer, everyone is good about that!

You need to learn and implement more issues. Here are the main steps:
1.Preparation: planning and training
2.Initial review:1)identify laws/regulations
2)evaluation of the compliance against 1)
3)identify environmental aspects
4)summary report
3.System plan: 1)Policy,structure and roles
2)Objectives and programmes
3)documents plan
4.Documents prepared:Manual+procedure+...
5.System running
6.Internal audit
7.Management review and improvement

Hope this helps!

Hi,

Apart from searching this Cove Site, which is a goldmine of information on ISO-14001, I would also suggest that you attend a five day accredited EMS Auditors' Course in Malaysia; that will give you specific exposure to the local environmental issues, legislative and other requirements, apart from some guidance on identification and evaluation of significant environmental aspects of your products, activities and services and general environmental issues. It will also provide you an opportunity to meet people with similar needs/requirements, share experience and to seek clarifications. In my assessment that will provide you a good starting point for building your ISO-14001 environmental management system.

With best regards,

Ramakrishnan

I would like introuduce myself to the forum.

I am from Perth, Western Australia once home of the America's Cup.

I have taken on a job to look at what I am told is the biggest single site brick manufacturing plant in the world to see whether or not they might pass ISO14001 certification if they chose to, a sort of gap analysis.

I was invited to this job basically because of my green lobbying credentials with them. I have tertiary qualifications in law, management and engineering and although I am familiar with 9000 am starting from scratch with 14000.

I has been a fast learning curve for me and along the way I have had questions I could not answer. Some of the questions I have found answers here and I thank you all for that. But there are others that I would like to throw in.

Marty

Welcome Marty!

Ask away...there are some things we can't do, like post copyrighted materials such as the 14001 standard. However, there's a lot of information here.

It seems to me that you have training and education that will help you a lot. Very good!

You can use the Search function on the toolbar above. Also, to view a list of attachments click on the Post Attachments List (green bar in the header of this page).
