I need help with material selection - Steel - M-2 @60-62rc

Would anyone know where i could go for help on selecting appropriate material for a given application?? I inherited a product line due to company downsizing. The line is performing poorly and I suspect the material is the culprit. I have a Pin and a bushing that have .0003 diametrical clearance. the pin slides in to the bushing then a heavy impact is made on both pcs.. Currently the bushing and the pin are made of M-2 @60-62rc . I thought that sliding components of the same material was a bad idea. Can anyone shed some light on this subject or can someone direct me to an appropriate site

Do you machine the pin and bushing in-house or outsource?

If in-house, have a conversation with the metallurgist at your material supplier, with full disclosure on your application.

If out-sourced, coordinate with machining house and its steel supplier (metallurgist.)

If you are still stymied, contact me off-line and I will recommend a metallurgist in Maywood that I have great confidence in.

M-2 High speed steel. Rc 60-62 used where tough rigidity is required such as tall thin core pins or blades
