I used to program turret punch presses back in the 80's. We had this typewriter type thing and I had to hand program the machine how to notch and punch holes in the sheet metal. I also had to take drawings of metal parts and lay them out by had and locate all the notches and holes. It would punch holes in a 1" wide tape which looped through a reader on the machine

By the 90's they had software that did all of this for you plus downlaoded the program into the machine. Put me out of a job...:lmao::lmao::lmao:

What I remember was working on procedures using a typewriter and a ruler. Also hand drawing the illustrations and taking scissors and cutting them out and taping them onto the procedures. It was a chore, but actually had a good time doing it.

Also my first computer was a Trash 80, what I remember when I first got it was trying to load programs into using the stupid tapes and their recorder. :(

First QA Manager job I had right after the military was for a company that made stand alone computer systems for data gathering powered by a TI TMX4500 @ 2Meg with 512K of on board storage. Programs were ran by programmable logic chips and shelves and shelves of 8" floppy disks:lmao::lmao:

We had a CNC that we programmed using punch tapes, wow, we thought we were really futuristic (and that was less than 10 years ago:lmao:)

IBM Selectric? All the secretaries were in awe. This was back in my construction/architectural days.

My commodore 64 was a GOD! Nothing was cooler than that, until I got my Commodore 128! We could hack the Basic programs and change then ourselves! Ahh, the good ol' days :notme:

The funny thing is that I still have that little IBM flowchart template back from high school when we used to wire our own compilers. I used it to chart processes even back then.
