IATF 16949: Adding a Remote Location between certifications

Hi all

The company I work for will be adding a remote location in a few months (Summer 2017). We were last certified (surveillance audit) in February 17 and will undertake certification to the version of IATF 16949 early 2018.

My question is: do I need to declare the new remote site to my Certification Body
(a) before we begin production ?
(b) after production begins ?
(c) in the Advanced Planning documents prior to 2018s audit?
(d) something else?

If I declare in Summer, will we need to undergo another audit to certify this remote location prior to 2018 audit?

Any guidance would be much appreciated!

Hi Laura, and welcome to the forums!

What does the remote location do? If it is doing work supporting sites in the existing certification then you need to notify your CB as soon as possible. In fact, the best answer in all cases is to communicate with your CB. Look at the contract you have with your CB and I believe you'll find requirements and conditions for notification to them - if you don't follow them they will issue you an NC. As a TS 16949 auditor I had to write those NCs several times when clients didn't notify us when they made significant changes to their systems.

Your CB will be able to let you know what the rules require and what timing is required. If it's a production site they will definitely need to audit the site before the 2018 audit.

Remote location shall be certified for TS16949 & but the RL need not be certified prior to your site. Only requirement is you shall have a plan for certification.

Every time during the certification & surveillance ,your CB would as on the certification status at RL along with your review on RL's audit report.

Note : an warehouse need not be RL.
