IATF 16949 Cl. 8.2.3.1.2 - Customer-designated special characteristics

The clause 8.2.3.1.2 says:
The organzation shall conform to customer requirements for designation, approval documentation, and control of special charateristics.

Approval documentation, what does it mean?

Anyone can explain will be much appriciated.

See also 8.3.3.3 Special Characteristics and 4.4.1.2.c and 4.4.1.2.f for Product Safety Characteristics. They are referring to customer approval of DFMEA, PFMEA, control plans, and work instructions, where the customer requires approval of these items.
