In our corporate internal audit when auditing process design this question came out in inputs, the standard says: the organization shall identify, document and review manufacturing process design input requirements including but not limited to...:

b) targets for productivity, process capability...

When we are talking process capability as an input, what do we use? the automotive standard >/= 1.33 ? or a history of a similar process?

Yes off course you should, but try to go with same product may be (product range Lower/Higher)
And remember Customer Specific Required also related to any new product development.

from automotive arena; the 1.33 process capability generally applies to product/part/device "Characteristic(s) or Feature(s)". For those involving "Safety or Regulatory" requirements or performance, the figure frequently increases to 1.67 or 2.0 in some cases, these are "usually" shown on drawings or specification, or CSR as mentioned above, or in AQRs, Additional Quality Requirements. Note: terminology varies from OEM to OEM...

Hope this helps...

That is exactly what I was going to say "refer to CSR," including if they require different Cpk for attribute type or automated processes.
