True. If the company also wants an ISO 9001 cert then they would need additional time to cover the non-automotive work in the audit.

I believe bpritts was suggesting that because they used the same system/processes for automotive and non-automotive that it would all be covered. That's not exactly true.

I believe bpritts was suggesting that because they used the same system/processes for automotive and non-automotive that it would all be covered. That's not exactly true.

If all the processes and scopes are the same, some registrars will grant an ISO 9001 cert alongside the TS cert with no further auditing. (My audits for Smithers do this when appropriate). It remains to be seen whether the new standard and new Rules will bring any changes to that.

And how would one know if the automotive and non-automotive processes are "the same" if nobody checks audits it? Even if we can easily establish the processes are similar, how can we establish the processes are being followed for the non automotive product lines, if we don't audit?

Not sure I follow the tone of your question.... obviously, the auditor was onsite to do a stage 1/2 or a transfer audit before we would certify them, and the certificate scope has to be identical. If we see there are differences, then it would require extra auditing. The TS rules don't allow ring fencing and such very much anymore.

The biggest difference will be in the prescriptive nature of the production control documentation for TS. For example, with TS the control plan has to be specific and contain certain things. ISO is much more flexible - so you can do "less" for ISO parts.
