IATF 16949 requirements for Product Safety Procedures

Product liability is on part manufacturer side. Some parts according to EU regulation are not subject to safety aspect related tests, but according to USA regulation yes. 4.4.1.2 is not design responsibility dependant requirement.
My comment is based on real example of supplier who had to deal with different "treatment" of part he manufactured. Initially it wasn't, later it was safety related product.

Actually, no. Product liability will be fought between the designer and manufacturer -- each pointing the finger at the other. The context we are talking about is component suppliers who are not responsible for design. They have no way of knowing safety related issues unless identified the by the designing customer.

Nope. The customer has to identify safety related issues. Suppliers don't have to guess.

Spot on @Golfman25 . Arbitrarily determining "safety related" is a dangerous practice which can be subjective and certainly opens the manufacturer (non-design responsible) open to all sorts of critique and even legal responsibilities and litigation beyond their manufacturing scope.

I have the opposite problem. We're a manufacture of solely safety critical parts. i.e. brakes, steering and suspension. We meet all of the requirements for product safety, but our auditor states we aren't compliant with a) and i)
I feel like the answer is right in front of me, but I'm struggling.

It would help us provide you some council if you can (without exposing any proprietary information), provide us with a little more detail.

Can you describe what your organization is currently doing to "meet all the requirements"?

2- When you state that the...
"...auditor states we aren't compliant with a) and i). Can you provide specifics from the audit report? i.e. what are the GAPS that the auditor is identifying (relative to what your organization is already doing) ?
