Hi everybody, this is my first post on this forum so i hope to be in the right thread... if not, forgive me :D

i'd like to make some question, hope you can help me:

1)is there any difference between being an iso/ts ext. auditor or an IATF approved one?

2) what are now the exact requirements to become an ext. auditor for iso/ts?

2)is it true that the second edition of IATF Rules will change this requirements?

Thank you very much.

Welcome to the cove.
I moved the post to the TS forum as I think that this will help in terms of replies, it could also be in the auditing forum but...

There are 2 aspects here to be a qualified 3rd party auditor, one who can work for a body that gives a certificate you must pass the IATF course, you can only take this course if you are sponsored by a certification body.
There are other courses for auditors by a number of other companies.
As far as I know the change of rules does not change this.

IATF Supplier Course

One British organization is "pushing" in malaysia that all organizations that going for TS registration have had to attend their SMMT approved Supplier Auditor Course.

This organization have informed their prospective clients that the ISO/TS 16949 auditor will fail these organizations if there MR and internal auditors are not trained and qualified by SMMT.

But at this moment there are two organziations in Malaysia & Singapore are claiming that they are the OFFICIAL SMMT authorised trainer in the Far East.

WHO is the rightful one and do we have to go to either of one them at an "premium" course fee rate???

yes but...

... i was reading the 2nd iatf rules draft and, if nothing's gonna change in the final release, it looks like you need 6 (!) years of full time work in a eligible (in terms of iso/ts application) company.... i mean: i'm the quality assurance manager of my company since 2 years, and i'm working to take the iso/ts in the end of next year.... after that, i was wondering about trying to work for certification bodies as external iso/ts auditor.... but i cannot understand: can i be an external isots auditor in a certification body (like TUV or BVQI) without being iatf certified?

There is no requirement to attend an "approved" auditing course for TS2. Contact SMMT and voice your concerns.

This is all my concerns

Yes, This is all my concerns. Here in China, there isn't any organization had have be authorized to entitle a ext. iso/ts auditor. That means if anyone wanna move to this, somewhere/somebody must have the right/responsibility of authorization. I am wondering if there's any general rules approved by iatf on how to entitled as a ext. iso/ts auditor?

Approved TS Course

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the enlighting news but where can I find that "statement". Will SMMT be able to support that there is no official IATF sanction course that Internal Auditors have to attend!!!

The IATF specifies what it takes to audit TS for a registrar in the "Rules" document. You DO have to be IATF approved, and yes, with the new "Rules" 2nd edition you will have to have at least 6 years experience. They really are trying to limit the number of

SilverHawk:
You don't have to find a statement that a requirement doesn't exist. ISO and the IATF only state requirements that do exist. If the requirement doesn't exist, it doesn't exist.

Thanx Howste, that's what i formerly guessed... :(... too bad for that, this means another 3 years of a sucky job for me...8-((

Oops, it looks like I didn't quite finish a sentence there. I meant to say that they are trying to limit the number of approved auditors, and are focusing on competence. When I attended the IATF training earlier this year, they said that there are enough auditors for the demand. The IATF is keeping information on the actual number of approved auditors secret for some reason. Fortunately I was approved by the IATF this year. :)
