IMDS - Tree Structure - Different Types of Nodes on Same Level Error

Was wondering if anyone could look at this IMDS structure for a part we supply and tell me how I can get it to go through. The error I get is "Different types of nodes used on the same level. "

I understand I cannot have a component (clinch stud) on the same level as a material(s) (ms66, zinc plate). However, my clinch stud supplier sent me his IMDS as a component.

I have a pretty rudimentry understanding of this system. The only solution I can think of is to create my own clinch stud as a material and add all the substances.

Hi Neil,

You can add another level of tree by creating a component and adding your Materials Ms-66 and Zinc plating. Then you call the stud which is a vendor part or purchased part or supplier part supplied by your supplier. Please find the proposed tree structure for your informations.

Let me provide you one of the example for tree structure. Assume you are manufacturing Mounting Assembly to mount the product to Chasis. This Mounting assembly consist of two sub components, Flange and Fasteners required to mount. Here Fasteners is purchase part which is supplied by your supplier, while Flange is inhouse product. During the creation of IMDS for Mounting Assembly you need to create two subcomponents (Flange and Fastener). Here you will call Fastener from your supplier and Flange from your inhouse in order to complete the Mounting Assembly.

Please find the details in the attached screen shots.

If you still need any more information or clarification please feel free to contact me.

Hi

I am using the new format IMDS and like the request by Neil V the system was the old version which I think was easier to use, can anyone provide the steps I need to take to keep two materials off the same level please, as Neil and Insert supplied as a material and an in-house material we purchase.

Thanks

I'm not exactly sure what you're trying to do, but if you have the issue of two different types of nodes at the same level, you need to create a component for one of them and attach the material to that node. If this isn't clear, please clarify what you're trying to do.

HI

Yes it is two nodes on the same level, I have created a part called base plate with the part number, I have changed one of the materials to the name base-plate and left the inserts as.

I have to enter the inserts first as the weight calculation will not allow me to enter our material as it falls within the allowable percentage acceptance, so will not allow me add the inserts which weigh very little.

As a limited user of the IMDS I am getting a little frustrated as the system is not user friendly, and the help pages really do not help.

So any help on two Nodes on the same level will be of great value

You can create as many components under the top-level component as you need. Just add materials as necessary to each component. This keeps you from having different types of nodes (components, materials) at the same level. The combined weights should equal the weight entered for the top level.

Look at the example below. The part is an e-coated metal bracket. The top level describes the completed part, and under it are two more components: the bare metal bracket and the e-coat material.
