Hi,

just wondering if anyone has a roadmap with milestones or steps to take in order to have a ISO 9001 QMS which is acceptable for ISO certification companies ?

When the standard was revised to the 2015 version, we reviewed the standard and performed a gap analysis to compare what we had in place to the requirements. For the items which we felt we had some gaps, we had some meetings, and we developed some actions to eliminate those gaps. My recommendation is try hard not to reinvent the wheel and try to think about what you are already doing and see how it fits into the standard. You may already be meeting most if not all that is listed as requirements in the standard.

First, study the system that is your organization at work delivering services with or without products to satisfy your customers. Doing this with your colleagues may determine what needs to be improved.

Then read the standard and it will make a lot more sense and you’ll be ready to update top management on what more needs to be done so your system conforms to the standard.

Make sure any needed additional controls and processes are put in place by the person who already has the responsibility and authority to make them happen. One of the missing processes may be internal auditing for which you personally may need newly defined authority, skills, knowledge and behaviors (competence).

And make sure that quality continues to be delivered by the business management system instead of creating a separate QMS.

Good luck!

Although it may not directly help with setting up your milestones, you would find ISO 9002:2016 very useful. It provides help in seeing how others have approached each of the requirements. It was written by the same group that wrote 9001. You would probably find it very insightful.

Also, if you are trying to show your customers that you are serious about getting certified, talk to your certification body. If you are already heading that way and you have a contract with them, most certification bodies will issue a letter of intent that often pleases your customers.
