Implementation of Quality System in Non TS/ISO company

Dear all,

i will be joining a new company very soon with the position of Quality Assurance Executive. This company is an Australian based company which is the leading provider of pallet, container and crate pooling services for many of the world’s largest supply chains. This company does not adopt any quality management system such as ISO OR TS16949. I was given responsibility to set up QA department with 2 supervisor and 3 operator. I sincerely hope to get some idea from your goodself on how should i start to set up QA dept in this company. i also need to know what type of documents that i need to established at this initial stage. I sincerely hope assistant and support from forummers who have good experience in setting up QA Department,especially during the initial or beginning stage. Thank You

I would first start by developing and defining your processes. Use a flow chart to help. Define how "the product" is ordered by the customer, how it is developed, created, inspected and shipped. Write up a procedure of each step. Train everyone to the procedures so each step is conducted in the same way, every time.

For your QA department - You just need to define again what testing is needed, what kind of inspection is needed and keep a record of what was done, when and to what specifically - note lot numbers for traceability.

You should some sort of traveler, group of documents, which travels with the product from start to finish that documents each and every step from when the order was taken and until it is shipped.

These are not requirements, but having these docs helps you in the care of where you need to go back and see who was involved and if there were any issues during the production of the product.

Good suggestions, Nikki. I would like to add that in order to track progress of any kind, you need to set up metrics (or objectives) that have relevance to the success of your quality assurance program. This, of course, will be an ongoing effort, so hunker down and get acclimated to the concept of "continual improvement".
