Implementing "Gage Control Software" this week. Since I have only limited experience with software, I am both excited and apprehensive. Is anyone else using "Gage Control Software"?

Yes, I have seen many implementations of that kinds of software.

The one I have seen most often in the USA is called gagetrak. ( I do not work for them and do not have any affiliation with them).

Are you sure you need software? Often software is overkill for small companies. A list of gages (handwritten or excel or word) and hard copy of calibration records.

I am currently working with a small company on their path to ISO registration. They have 15 gauges. Gage control software would be overkill for them and a waste of their money (software licenses, training, etc.)

We have 700+ gages and counting. Some of them are calibrated in house, many by outside calibration labs. Our company is growing fast and I want to get a handle on this before I get overwhelmed. It's time.

I would agree with the previous statement but when the calibration program gets to the point where it will or soon require a dedicated man year to support the program, then it is time to get a software program like this. We have used this software at Vegas Fasteners since its inception when we had just over 2000 pieces of equipment. It was apparent for quite awhile that the software available was just not what was needed to keep up with the usage, issuance, and control of the program. This software program has greatly improved our overall control of our calibrated equipment which now has up to 3000 pieces of equipment. Its capabilities has made our calibration program as efficient as it had only could have been imagined previously.

We love GAGE CONTROL.COM. We have over 1000 gages now. Our calibration manager was getting overwhelmed by his binders and clipboards. Our calibration guy is in his mid seventies. I know we had to computerize our gage recall if we wanted to stay on top of it. Our Calibration Manager was dead set against any computer program, but now he really likes it. We have been using GAGE CONTROL for about a year and its working out great. We looked around at many programs and choose GAGE CONTROL. It’s easy to use and allows us to go paperless. We have been audited several times and each audit has gone well. If I knew how easy the software was too use, I wouldn’t have waited this long. I cannot say enough good things about this software.

Thanks for all the suggestions/help. Just wanted to report that the "mass Calibration" is finished and we are up and running with "Gage Control" Software. The software was easy to implement. The people at Gage Control sofware did all he work.

When I first took over as Quality Manager, we used a gauge control software however I moved all our thread gauges (and eventually our hand tools) over to be an inventory item in our shop system (E2). I have the ability to search for inventory items with a specific due date (or between a date range) and can scan and link the certifications to the inventory items (so I don't have books and books of certifications). It also allows me to make PO's quickly as the gauge is an inventory item and everything 'auto populates'. I also use the inventory item when people check out the gauge so I know what machine it is on, and what part number the gauge was used for. After 2 years, I have pulled out about 30% of our gauges due to no use. I keep them, but don't send them out for calibration unless we are going to need them again.

We do our Accounting on E2. We looked at it for calibration purposes. It just didn't have the features Gage Control has. We do a lot of our calibration internally. Gage Control has fields for temperature, humidity, as found, as left, calibration standards, etc... E2 didn't Gage Control also allows you to easily post this information to history. Gage Control was just superior for our purposes. www.gagecontrol.com

Michael,
Would you still recommend E2 for gage tracking/calibration?
I own a company and I am pushing to have as much information in E2 vs alternative calibration software with additional cost.

Thank you in advance for your time and efforts,
Ben
