Importance of Polarized Light for PWB/PCB Inspection

I have recently begun inspecting PWBS and PCBs. I find that polarized light is very helpful in finding/evaluating a variety of issues. However, I have been told that some facilities are not allowed to use polarized light for inspection purposes. This seems crazy to me since I believe there are defects we cannot detect without it.

I would like to hear your opinions regarding this topic.

Not too sure of why , never seen anything saying not.

BUT.... to keep things equal and at a certain quality level inspection often stipulates a method.
ie. 5x magnification standard.
Now you can inspect at 10x but then you would be inspecting to a diff level.

Normal light source may be stipulated for GP inspection.
Polarized for a tighter level etc.
