Importing Medical Device Software to India - Diagnostic Imaging Application

I have been trying to understand what activities have to be conducted to be able to import a medical device that is software only. The medical device is
a diagnostic imaging application with no hardware components.

It does not seem like CDSCO regulates such devices. I believe we will still have
to go through the process of securing the import license if we intend to have
our own local presence.

Any assistance would be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Rishi Gadagkar

I would like to clarify you that Medical Device Software is currently not regulated in India and no need for Import Licenses.

You can import the software by payment of stipulated import duty and no license is required, as long as the description and purpose of the software is clear and does not have any connection to defence or space or other distruction application.

I would like to thank all the responders to my question. I would appreciate
if a moderator would let me know if I have to be logging in frequently to have
my queries answered.

Typically if my question gets answered I do receive an email and I do log in
to check the response.

In my opinion, my question is fairly generic and discouraging members not to
answer a question is counter intuitive. You can always have another forum
member searching for an answer to the same question 6 months down the
road. I strongly believe that my question would qualify to be part of a FAQ
for this forum.

Thanks again,

Rishi.

Dear Gadagkar.
Namaste and welcome.
Thanks for coming in.
It is your forum and you are free to log in anytime at your will.
It is only that the visitors will not know your response if there is no posts further. It is just this that perhaps prompted Subbu to post a reply for an unanswered question, and later by me. Thread gets live again and good for all.
In my assessment no discouraging has ever been done. In fact for posts older than a year (I guess) since last post, there is a prompting to the visitor to be aware of the gap and still decide to post or otherwise.
We look forward for your more participation as always ...
Thanks for coming in
