And on with the trend of using oneself as a canvas...
...how many Covers have allowed people to punch holes in their earlobes/bellies/eyebrows/other less discussable parts? :mg:

Now I have to draw the line. I used to have my ear pierced ONCE with a small diamond stud.

My better half has cornered the market in our household:

Ears = 6 on each
Mouth = 1 (but since removed)
Belly Button = 1 (it is so hot)

That is enough. Guy who did my tat, had 27 piercings. Only 12 are allowed to be mentioned on here. OUCH OUCH OUCH

Two in one ear, three in the other (at the top) - only the bottom hole of each ear is still completely open.

One belly-button ring - although it has to come out - you can see the outline of it through my wedding dress! (oops!).

Yep - know what you're saying - and really can't understand the appeal.

Note: Part of me has always wanted to try out an eyebrow ring - but given that I'm a "professional" now, and having wedding pictures taken in five months (holy cow!) I don't know that it's the greatest idea.

Volountarily? Not on my life.... It's quite enough with the cuts and bruises I've collected by accident over the years. I feel no need to unneccessarily add to them

I'm obviously out of fashion though. Some people I see nowadays would probably have the metal detectors in any airport security check beeping for dear life.

Besides my earlobes..... no piercings....I am too chicken to do it, and I hate any type of pain. I am with Claes, no inflicted pain, unless it was an accident.

However, my better half, that's another story..... He has had ears, eyebrows, nose, that cartlidge between the two nostrils, lip, tongue....... and (4) unmentionable places. Since I met him 7 years ago, the only ones to remain are the ears and the tongue.

He also has able 30 tatoos. One even on the inside on his lower lip. He doesn't get piecings, or tattoos where you can see them if he is wearing a normal t-shirt and jeans. But, you can see them once he wears tank top and shorts. He just wanted to make sure that he was able to cover himself for job's sake.

I have seriously thought about a tattoo though. There is this award winning tat artist we are good friends with, and I think he would be the only one that I would allow to do ANY work on me. Again, the fear factor plays a large role! :biglaugh:

Honestly - and I'm not just saying this, because I don't have a huge pain threshold either - the belly ring didn't really hurt at all. The aftercare hurt more than the piercing. I was working a co-op job at the time - we had uniforms with high-waisted pants (yeah, that's hot!). I couldn't bend at the waist for about a week because the waistband of the pants put pressure on the ring.

Other than that, though, it really didn't hurt. I was surprised. I remember lying in the chair (dentist-style) and just cringing...then saying "are you going to do it already?!?!" and hearing "I already did". I looked down to see the needle in my stomach - he was just preparing to put the ring in. The look of it made me more woozy than the feel of it!

LOL! that is usually what I say "You already did it?" in the Dr.'s office after I spend about 1/2 hour whining and complianing about a simple little shot. I have a "special" nurse named LuLu who has to come in for me, the biggest baby around! But, I believe it is a result of classicial conditioning (in the Freudian sense) I have tiny little veins and they are deep, and nurses seem to think that they can stick a normal large needle in my arm 10-20 times and say "Oh, well you were right, we need a butterfly needle". Usually I come out bruised and battered..... he he

Anyway..... getting back to the topic I had a distain for needles. I am needle-phobic, an anti-needle-ite. I was thinking that getting a tat is something like allergy testing if you ever had it. After about 10 minutes of that, I wanted to knock the poor nurse out. I couldn't stand it!

I would really, in all actuality love to get my belly pieced too. Thanks for the confidence booster. It proably wouldn't hurt as much as I think it would like you said, and I am making a WAY bigger deal that it actually is. You only live once! You have to seize the day.

Do you think it felt better that you thought because they pull the skin around the belly area?

Yeah - that probably helped. When I got mine done, he took little...tongs, essentially, with holes through the ends, and pulled up a small section of my belly - just enough to get the top part of the bellybutton exposed. Then it was a quick poke and it was all done. Come to think of it, I'm not sure how he got the tongs *off* - you'd think the needle would still have been threaded through both holes - but anyway, there was really nothing to it. Whole thing took under 5 minutes. Not a big deal at all. As I say, the aftercare was the worst part of it - and even that was not a big deal at all. No infections or anything...it's more of a pain in the butt to keep washing it all the time - I was in an industrial environment (in a polyester uniform, no less!) and it was summertime, so sweat and dirt were a concern.

And they *can* be quite flattering...I got mine before I met my fiancé so he's never seen me without one and is sort of excited for me to take it out. His friends can't understand why. :biglaugh: (Mind you, not like I walk around flashing my midriff to the world, so I'm not sure why it matters to them...)
