Dear sir,
i have some experience in preparing Standard operation procedure for production processes. In my new company, among my tasks are to prepare Standard Operation Procedure for the operation. For your kind information,my new company nature of business is as provider of pallet, container and crate pooling services for many of the world’s largest supply chains. My company does not adopt any quality or environmental management system at this moment. I am planning to prepare SOPs which incorporate with safety precaution in it. I would like to seek help from forum members in order to provide me some template or sample of SOP which has safety precaution incorporate into it. I will use these samples as my reference when preparing new sops for my company. Your assistance is highly appreciated.

Re: Incorporating safety requirement into Standard Operation Procedure

At any task, process step, etc., you can include safety-specific and/or environmental instructions that can be in a particular color for emphasis. For example: Red for safety, green for environmental concerns. If you are already competent in writing SOP's, this should not be difficult for you. So the format of your preferred SOP style does not need to change, you just include safety, environmental instructions, etc.

Re: Incorporating safety requirement into Standard Operation Procedure

Dear sir,
I would like to seek help from forum members in order to provide me some template or sample of SOP which has safety precaution incorporate into it.
Muhd Firdaus; I have been in safety for many years and safety is all about asking 4 questions:

1. what is the job that has to be done - what is the task
2. what could go wrong - This is the hazard or risk identification stage
3. what would happen if it did go wrong - this is hazard or risk assessment stage
4. what can be done about it - this is hazard or risk control stage

At each stage of the process the SOP describes, ask these questions. At stages 2, 3 and 4 there may be multiple answers and options. Its OK to have several controls

More important you should to go to the people who work in the process controlled by the SOP and get them to go through this process as they know the answers to these 4 questions and particulary how they do question 4. Ask them is it effective. It's also advisable to ask the person who supervisors the task as they will have a much greater knowledge of whether or not the existing controls are effective.

You should also consult any sate or national safety legislation (laws) that applies or relates to the hazards in the process the SOP describes.

A hazard is a source of harm
A risk is - 'what are the chances' (of the what-could-go-wrong happening)
A risk assessment is an assessment of the likelihood of the event happening along with and assessment of how bad would it be if it happened.

Try not to complicate it more than I have explained here, Keep it simple and revise the controls and the SOP as and when evidence comes to hand that the safety controls in place are not effective.

hope this helps
