Inspection of PCB provided by customer

Question: We are a small company which makes diverse electronic products and we also offer manufacturing services (EMS). For our products, we have an inspection sheet at the incoming for PCB?s and we keep certificates of compliance. We also make a check of the manufacturer?s documentation.

However, for the subcontracting part of our business, some customers supply us with their PCBs. In these cases, we miss several information to make a propoper incoming inspection.

How should we handle this problem?
1) To ask to the customer to provide us with evidence of its prior inspection or with the documentation ?
2) To trust only the customer and not to make anything special?
3) To inspect that we can and to indicate that the customer has supplied us with the parts.

What does your Customer expect? What level of inspection is your Customer planning on doing? this should be part of the contract.
who will the customer automatically hold accountable for board failures?
How and who will determine if a board failure is related to the supplied PCB or to the processing that you perform?
as a small shop you may not be equipped to investigate and prove your innocence...

One of the simplest things that you can ask your customer is to send you PCB which has a BBT pass small label on each.
BBT = Bare Board Tested
