Instill a culture of quality into China

There is a need for a worldwide demand about the level of quality from China suppliers. Suppliers can increase the quality of their service while reducing their costs.

Government of China and the international regulatory body on trade and industry should imposed optimal balance between cost and quality.

Personally, I think it's better to boycott products with lower quality.

Many MNCs come to China, India, Vietnam or even Phillipines only with the intent to reduce cost by introducing manual processes and using cheap labor. I dont think that the generalization that the quality of China goods is bad is not true.

Did you know that the various handphones, computers etc are all made in china ?

I completely agree with this. Stop trying to buy cheap products - pay a fair price for what you want intead of trying to use and abuse.

I can get rubbish from any country in the world if I only focus on price.

Hi!

I am from the mainland of China. I have translated all context in this thread and put it on a Chinese quality BBS.

First of all, I should thank all of you for your honest comments about the quality of products made in China.

There are several facts I need mention here:
1. China has long long brilliant history (thousands of years) but very very short time (a few of decades) to open its door to the outside of the world.
2. There is a population of 1.4 billion in China, and over 70% are in the countryside.
3. There are over 100 million illiterate people.
4. There are over 20~30% of unemployment rate
5. There are ecnomic structural imbalance in China, from the east to the west, and from the south to the north.

We are still in the primitive accumulation of capital, during which the factory owners make profits by any kind of means, just like what had happened in 16-18 century in British. So we need time to improve!

But some of the factories goes fast and are coming to focus on its reputation by improving the quality.
Therefore, there is very unbeliveable fact existed in China, we produce first class quality products with world famous brands, and we also produce products with bad quality but cheapest prices.

So, when doing business with Chinese suppliers, you must be very careful to find your partner. My suggestions are followings:
1. never do biz with only one supplier, you MUST find several ones from them you can get any information about other suppliers', if you work well
2. do not push them too hard, give them some profits so that they supply you with quality products instead of cheating you
3. provide requirements as detailed as possible, what they think is not always the same as what you think.
4. check every lot before shipping by third international authorities like SGS.
5. communicate with them at every stage, to make sure they havd done exactly what you ask them to do.

Hi Jelly (and I'd love to hear the reason for the name choice )

I'm far from being an expert on China, but I recognise almost everything you write. The Chinese company I do most business with I've visited and become good friends with those I've spoken to. We've met both in China and in Europe.

I'll repeat something I've written more than once - if you aren't willing to pay a fair price, then any company (here I'm mainly thinking suppliers to large manufacturers) in any country will supply inferior quality. True, wages in China are lower than many countries, but it still doesn't mean that Chinese companies should feel greatful just to receive an order.

If doing business in China, it's well worth the time and effort to visit the country and meet the people. The worst that can happen is an enjoyable holiday - the best, making new friend and possible business aquaintances.

Does anyone know a country where the thought of receiving inferior quality from it seems "impossible"?

Often when I'm evaluating or comparing something I make two columns - Pro and Con. It often gives an interesting overview
